Halifax April 20th

Sir,
In compliance with the command, of His Excellency, the lieut. Governor, requiring us to report on the Petition of Charles Adams, we beg respectfully to state, that, at the Close of the New Year, year after having taken into consideration, the hardship of his case, we consented to make him an allowance of nine pounds, with which he appeared perfectly satisfied, signing at the same time a receipt in full of the demands.
We were unwilling to accede to his request relative to further gift of a Horse from Sable Island, fearing that it might be construed into a precedent by the other servants of the Establishment: such however would not
