Sable Island, August 22d 1847

Gentlemen

In answer to some Statements made by the People of the Island with regard to bad treatment I have to state, that the Reports they have made are not Correct, and has no foundation whatever they have good Provisions, and Plenty of it, good Treatment, and they get all the Liquor that is sent here, with the Milk + Butter from the Cattle and I so far feel happy that Mr. Cunard, has himself had an opportunity of witnessing how far they are Correct,

Joseph Darby, Superintend.t

At the time this was wrote there was no real cause of Complaint about provissions, but since that there was some barrels of Bad Beeff sent to the Island as Stores.
