pounds, the persons who bid on the wreck I cannot remember but I think the Gentleman who preceded my last bid was Mr. [illegible: Pearson?]. I beg distinctly to state that I made the purchase [underlined: bona fide] from the information I received, through the public prints and from the statements made publicly at the sale in reference to the state of the vessel and her cargo, which I understood consisted of Pickled Fish and Dry Fish, and some copper. I subsequently sold a part of the vessel to a Mr John Darby to whom I intended to intrust the more active duties in attending to the wreck
