Halifax March 29th 1849
Sir,
We have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from you this Morning of a communication from Mssrs Creighton & Grassie claiming your intereference in directing us to return certain charges deducted in paying over the balance due the Owners of the Specie, [?]and from the Wreck of the Spanish Schooner Bella Maria at Sable Island.

In reply, we beg briefly to state: That in consequence of the conflicting claims of Messrs.[?] Bennett [?] of Newfoundland the original consignees of the property, and the Spanish Vice Consul in this City; we in obedience to your instructions, laid the case before the Atty General, and on his written opinion communicated to you, made a final adjustment of the Amount, and paid the same over to The Hon. Sanuel Cunard / Agent of Messr[?] Bennett [?] who expressed himself perfectly satisfied with the charges as just and moderate in every respect, and such as under
