him, and affordency every information; And if the money was paid to Mr. Bennett with out the Spanish Vice Consuls Knowledge, it was done without any intention of Slight, but acting under the express orders of The Gov'ent we conceived there was no further necessity for any action on the case.

In calling your attention to the demand of Sable Island for the sum advanced to The Spanish Vice Consul for the relief of the passengers & Crew of the "Bella Maria", we had not the Slightest intention of making it an offset against the claim of Mess'rs Creighton & Grassie, but merely considered it our duty to call your attention tot he Subject, But we would here remark that the entire Amount of that advance was not included in Salvage awarded to Sable Island by the Magistrates: The Spanish Vice Consul expressly stating at this time, that [Pound Symbol 60?] would be more than sufficient to supply the wants of the passengers & Crew, consequently that was the Amount included in the Advance and the Balance of thirty Nine pounds, was only paid by us out of the Island funds by your order, under the express Stipulation that the Vice Consul would exert his influence with the Government he
