Report of J.W.E. Darby Commander of the [Revenue?] Schr "Daring"
Sir
I left Halifax on the 7th of August with the Hon [?] Attorney General bound for "Arichat" in Cape Breton, where I arrived on the 9th of August, nothing occuring to report.
On the 11th I was at anchor in the harbour of Arichat, and at 12.20 I saw a large Bark run on the "Cerberus" (a Rock laying S.W. about 3 miles from the Entrance of Arichat) I immediately got underweigh [sic] and Ran out to the Bark, and on going on board their Master gave me charge of his Ship to do with as I considered best for the benefit of all concerned. I proceeded to lay out anchors an [sic] apply such purchase as I had out [word] [word]. and at 9 p.m. of the same day I succeeded in [word] them
