and that his clothes &c have been forwarded and await his own disposal. With reference to his complaint of the provisions issued from the Establishment, we have also to state, that no [charge or change?] has been made in this respect and no complaint whatsoever, of the kind, has, before this instance, been made to us and that Mr. Cunard, one of the Commissioners, visited the Establishment in August last and inspected the provisions, which, in his opinion, were considered good and such as have been ordinarily used at the Establishment.

From the tenor of the letter late received from the Superintendant, it would appear that Robert C. Nicholls has, according to the articles of agreement, forfeited his wages. Under these circumstances we have not considered ourselves justified in paying him the balance of wages, for which he has made application to us, as such a course might have the tendency to encourage insubordination on the part of the servants of the Establishment. If, however, His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, should under the circumstances of Robert C. Nicholls being, by his statement, without any means of maintenance and having a wife and family to support, be pleased to sanction the payment thereof, we shall have much pleasure in carrying into effect His Excellency's wishes.
