Circular economy and waste: engagement

The Government of Nova Scotia is developing a plan to reduce waste to 300 kg per person per year by 2030. Share your ideas on what the plan should include, how to grow the province’s circular economy and ways to reduce waste.

About the engagement

Government is committed to growing the circular economy (an economy with no wasted energy or materials) by reducing the provincial solid waste disposal rate to 300 kg per person per year by 2030. Right now, the solid waste disposal rate is about 400 kg per person per year, so that will reduce waste by 25%. To support the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act, government is also developing a plan to help Nova Scotia reach this target.

Nova Scotians are invited to share ideas on what the plan should include, how to encourage the province’s circular economy and how we can reduce waste. Government is also looking for feedback from solid waste resource management groups from municipalities, First Nations communities, industry and non-governmental organizations to help develop the plan.

We need your ideas about:

  • using valuable resources wisely
  • how to think about waste as a resource instead of a cost
  • how to find innovative ways to better the environment and the economy
