PREMIER--NEW DEPUTY MINISTER

     The appointment of Arnold A. Rovers as deputy minister,
Department of Agriculture and Marketing, has been announced by
Premier John Savage.  Mr. Rovers was executive director of the
department's agriculture development division.
     
     The new deputy joined the department in 1967 as a farm
management specialist. He has held a number of important posts
within the department including director of the marketing and
economics branch and was chief executive officer of the Nova
Scotia Farm Loan Board.
     
     Premier Savage described the new deputy as "an accomplished
and experienced executive with 27 years of increasing
responsibilities within the department."
     
     Mr. Rovers holds a B.Sc from McGill University and a M.Sc
degree in agriculture economics from the University of
Connecticut.
     
     He received the Distinguished Agrologist Award from the Nova
Scotia Institute of Agrologists in 1993.
     
     Mr. Rovers lives in Truro and is married with four children.
