HEALTH--SUSAN PEEL
------------------------------------------------------------------
Health Minister Ron Stewart says any allegations that his
executive assistant attempted to influence physicians on behalf
of Susan Peel are "absolutely false."

"This charge is unfounded. It is completely untrue. I have
checked into the matter thoroughly. There was no attempt made to
interfere with any physician's clinical work or hospital
admission procedure. There were no calls made by my staff or
anyone else in my department with respect to this case," the
minister said.

Yesterday, the Victoria General Hospital confirmed that Peel
was admitted to hospital because her medical condition warranted
admission and for no other reason.

The minister said that from the beginning he found the
allegation distasteful and he hopes the issue is now resolved.
