EDUCATION/CULTURE--APPOINTED PRINCIPAL OF TRURO CAMPUS

     Marsha A. Chase has been appointed principal of the new
Truro Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College, effective
January 30, Education Minister Johm MacEachern announced today.

     Ms. Chase, selected as a result of a national search, has
served as a teacher and administrator with the Ontario education
and community college system since 1977.  Prior to her new
appointment she had served as chair of the school of accounting
and finance of Seneca College, Willowdale, Ontario.  Between 1980
and 1990 she served as program leader and co-ordinator of
accounting programs at Canadore College, North Bay.

     She holds B.A. and B.Ed degrees from Nipissing University, a
certified general accountant designation and is completing her
M.B.A. at York University.  She is the current treasurer of the
Canadian Association for Co-operative Education and has been
active in international projects in Asia on behalf of Seneca
College. 

     In making the announcement, Mr. MacEachern said Ms. Chase
brings to the position an understanding of contemporary community
college programming with a special understanding of the needs of
the business community.  "Her past experience and credentials
make her an excellent choice to lead the management and
development of the new Truro campus," he said.

     The Minister announced in September, 1994 that work had
commenced on creating the new campus which will generate
significant new training opportunities and economic benefits for
Truro and the province.  In general, the campus will focus on
business and technology, applied and creative arts,
entrepreneurship and community economic development.  The campus
will utilize the facilities of the Nova Scotia Teachers College.
