PREMIER--PREMIER APPOINTS PRINCIPAL ASSISTANT

  Premier John Savage today announced the appointment of Suzan
  MacLean, of Halifax, as his principal assistant. The
  appointment is effective Feb. 5, 1996.
  
  A native of Antigonish, Ms. Maclean, 46, is a graduate of
  St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University Law
  School.
  
  Ms. MacLean was most recently vice-chair of the Nova Scotia
  Securities Commission. She has resigned that position. Until
  1993, she was vice-president and general counsel for Central
  Guaranty Trust.
  
  Until she resigned this week, Ms. MacLean was a member of
  the Dalhousie University Board of Governors. She is a member
  of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society.
  
  Premier Savage said he is delighted that a person with Ms.
  MacLean's obvious talents has agreed to join his office.
  
  "In addition to her proven management skills, Suzan also has
  considerable knowledge and experience in matters of public
  policy."
  
  As principal assistant, Ms. MacLean will advise the premier
  on policy matters and will be responsible for day-to-day
  operations of his office.
  
  Ms. MacLean's salary will be in the senior deputy minister's
  range, between $89,000 and $97,000.
