NS ART GALLERY--ASSOCIATE CURATOR OF CERAMICS NAMED

Alexandra McCurdy has been appointed associate curator of
ceramics at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Bernard Riordon,
gallery director announced today.

This part-time position includes research, collection
development, and exhibition production related to ceramics. In
1994, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia opened the Lloyd and Jean
Shaw Gallery - Ceramics and included ceramics in their collection
mandate.

In making the appointment, Mr. Riordon said: "Ceramics have a
special place in the art history of the province, especially the
role played by the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Now the
gallery has the in-house curatorial expertise to acknowledge this
important art form."

McCurdy, born in Worcestershire, England holds a bachelor of fine
arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a masters
degree in 3D design, ceramics from the Cardiff Institute of
Higher Education. Her work has been exhibited in many
international, solo and group exhibitions. She has a long
standing relationship with the arts community and has served on
the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia's acquisition committee, she has
been vice president of the Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council and
visual arts member of its skills development advisory committee.
