HEALTH--PHYSICIAN RECRUITED TO CHETICAMP

The residents of Cheticamp will soon be welcoming a new
physician, Dr. Marcel Aucoin, a family practitioner who is
originally from the community.
"The recruitment of Dr. Aucoin is great news for Cheticamp," said
Frank Peters, physician recruitment co-ordinator, while
addressing delegates at the Medical Society of Nova Scotia annual
conference. "I am very pleased to see another underserviced area
receive a physician, and it's especially wonderful to see a
physician return to his hometown to practice medicine."
Dr. Aucoin will be setting up practice in Cheticamp in July. He
is married and has one son.
Since Mr. Peter's arrival in September 1995, a partnership
between Mr. Peters and Nova Scotia communities has resulted in 13
positions being filled across the province -- six have been under
the incentive package, while seven physicians have been placed in
non-incentive areas.
Mr. Peters was hired jointly by the Department of Health and the
Medical Society of Nova Scotia to recruit physicians to the
province.
