ECONOMIC RENEWAL--GOVERNMENT APPROVES LOAN TO PRATT & WHITNEY
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Nova Scotia Economic Renewal Agency has approved a $3 million
loan to Pratt & Whitney Canada to assist with the expansion of
its blade production and employee training at the Aerotech Park
facility.

Pratt & Whitney Canada, the world's largest manufacturer of small
gas turbines, is investing $19.4 million and adding some 50
people to its Halifax workforce to double its annual blade
production for aircraft engines.

"Pratt & Whitney Canada is a key member in the province's
technology sector," Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann said.
"The partnership between the Nova Scotia government and Pratt &
Whitney Canada includes the Nova Scotia Community College, which
is helping to build a highly skilled workforce in a specialized
area."

"This expansion demonstrates Pratt & Whitney Canada's commitment
to maintaining a world class manufacturing facility in Nova
Scotia," said Peter Wressell, general manager of Pratt & Whitney
Canada's Halifax facility.

A key component to the expansion includes customized training in
automated manufacturing technology for potential Pratt & Whitney
Canada employees at the Nova Scotia Community College, Institute
of Technology campus. Seventy-five percent of Pratt & Whitney
Canada's Halifax employees were trained at Nova Scotia Community
College campuses. The college's customized training courses are
developed in consultation with industry.
