SPORT/RECREATION--DEADLINES CHANGE-RECREATION FACILITY GRANTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The provincial government, through the Sport and Recreation
Commission, will continue to provide financial assistance for the
provision and conservation of recreation facilities in the
province.

However, the deadlines and the application process have changed.

Applications should be submitted through regional representatives
of the Sport and Recreation Commission. There are five grant
categories, each with different criteria and requirements for
eligibility. The categories include: projects to conserve
existing facilities; projects to build new facilities valued at
less than $90,000; projects to improve community use of schools;
the Little Red Schoolhouse program; planning and audit studies.

Potential applicants should notify the commission of their
intention to apply for assistance no later than Sept. 1.
Completed applications must be submitted to the commission by the
following Feb. 1 to be considered for funding in the fiscal year
starting April 1.

Applicants will be informed of the status of their application as
soon as possible following review. Unless otherwise stated,
projects that receive funding must be completed within the
specified fiscal year and all funding must be accounted for
during that period.
