EDUCATION/CULTURE--PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Professional workshops and seminars are part of the offerings of
courses at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design this fall.

Whether it's to fine tune a professional image, create a better
work space or let the world know about your craft, all this and
more is offered at the centre.

Stephen Zwerling will lead a workshop on How to Photograph Your
Craft, an important skill for professional craft people, as they
apply for jurying or submit their product for publications and
advertising.

A pair of young architects, graduates of the Technical University
of Nova Scotia, will offer help in creating an environment that
is compatible to the activity that takes place there, and a
number of business owners will share their experiences in running
a successful craft business. Even the Internet has entered the
crafts and Brian Segal will discuss the "do's and don'ts" in
using the Internet as a marketing tool.

As always the centre offers many courses both for the beginner
and the experienced in a wide variety of crafts. Woodworking,
pottery, stained glass, jewellery/enamelling, fibre arts such as
weaving, spinning, knitting, dyeing, quilting, and rug hooking
are well represented in the course offerings this fall. A new
feature this year is that a number of courses will be held in the
daytime on weekends, appealing to those people who do not like to
go out at night.

People who work on weekdays, you can still take part in the lunch
hour classes in Woven Christmas Decorations led by the well-known
basketweaver, Joleen Gordon.

A course brochure is available from the Centre for Craft and
Design, 1683 Barrington St., Halifax, P.O. Box 578, B3J 2S9,
telephone 902-424-4062.
