ECONOMIC RENEWAL--NEW CHAIR TO NS FILM BOARD APPOINTED

The appointment of Kenzie MacNeil as the new chairman of the Nova
Scotia Film Development Corporation, has been announced by
Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann.  

A resident of Sydney, Mr. MacNeil enjoys a national reputation
for his artistic endeavours in several mediums. He is publisher
and editor of The Cape Bretoner Newsmagazine, and his credits
include television producer, artistic and music director for
numerous film, television, radio and theatre productions.

"Film-making is now big business in Nova Scotia," said Mr. Mann,
"and through the Film Development Corporation, we're going to
aggressively promote Nova Scotia as an ideal location for film
production."

The film industry has grown to an anticipated $60 million
business in Nova Scotia in 1996/97. Over the past three years,
the province has maintained the highest growth rate in the
Canadian film business.

Other members re-appointed to the corporation include Marie
Comeau, Little Brook, Digby County; Terrance D. Brown, Halifax;
Carol Sherman, South Ohio, Yarmouth County; Corina Ulescu,
Halifax; and John Albert Yogis, Halifax. Additional directors
will be named to the board within the next month.

"Not only does Nova Scotia have the beauty and historic feel
film-makers often look for, we also have the home-grown talent to
entertain at a world-class level," Mr. Mann said.

The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is a provincial
Crown corporation responsible for stimulating investment,
employment and growth in the Nova Scotian film and video
industry. The corporation administers a tax credit to qualifying
Nova Scotian production companies on labour costs.
