HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION--HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER APPOINTED

The appointment of Odette MacLeod to the position of human rights
officer in Digby, has been announced by Wayne MacKay, executive
director of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. She replaces
Cherry Paris who retired in July.

"We are fortunate to have Ms. MacLeod join the commission," said
Mr. MacKay. "Her interest in human rights and her training as an
investigator are valuable assets and I am very confident she will
serve the community very well."

Ms. MacLeod has worked in the investigative field for several
years. She spent four years with the office of the correctional
investigator in Ottawa as well as two terms with the office of
the New Brunswick ombudsman.

Ms. MacLeod is a member of the Bar of Nova Scotia and the Ontario
Bar. She has had particular training and experience with human
rights legislation, and has worked in the labour law field with
the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton's and with the RCMP
external review committee.

She has also worked, on a volunteer basis, with the Canadian
Deaf-Blind and Rubella Association and the Canadian Criminal
Justice Association.
