NATURAL RESOURCES--LOOKING FOR 1997 WOODLOT OWNER OF THE YEAR
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Do you know of any outstanding landowners whose attitude,
knowledge, and achievements are reflected through their woodlot?

Department of Natural Resources staff are searching for nominees
for the 1997 Nova Scotia Woodlot Owner of the Year award. In its
eighth year, the award recognizes outstanding woodlot owners who
practice integrated resource management.

Nominees must be residents of Nova Scotia and own at least 20
hectares (50 acres) of woodland, which has been actively managed
for three or more years. Nominations can be made by contacting
private lands staff at your nearest Natural Resources office. The
deadline for nominations is Dec. 12, 1996.

Eight regional finalists will be selected from the nominees by
Dec. 31, 1996. A committee of Natural Resources representatives
will meet with the finalists and visit their woodlots next
spring.

The winner will be announced by mid-May and be presented with an
award. A field day will be held on the winner's woodlot in
September, 1997. Regional winners will also receive an award to
recognize their achievements.
