NEWS RELEASE (CNS971) -->> HEALTH--MORE PHYSICIANS FOR
NOVA SCOTIA COMMUNITIES

HEALTH--MORE PHYSICIANS FOR NOVA SCOTIA COMMUNITIES
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It's been a very busy year for Nova Scotia's physician
recruitment coordinator, Frank Peters.

Most recently he has been instrumental in helping three more
physicians relocate to communities in the province. Two
physicians have set up practice in rural Nova Scotia, and one
other will be relocating to the province early in the new year.

The community of Shubenacadie welcomed Dr. Lorraine Pelley on
Oct. 15. Dr. Pelley is originally from Summerford, Nfld., and
received her medical degree from Memorial University in 1991. She
is relocating from Ontario where she was in family practice.

Dr. Colin Sutton, originally from South Africa, began practising
in Stellarton Dec. 2. He graduated with his MD from the
University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1988 and then
practised family medicine in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Dr.
Sutton is moving from Crystal City, Man., where he was in family
practice.

Dr. Marie Josee McGrath will be setting up practice in Meteghan
on Jan. 13. A native of Dieppe, N.B., she graduated this year
with her MD from Laval University, Quebec City. The community of
Meteghan was very instrumental in this recruitment initiative.

Since September 1995, the recruitment initiative of the Medical
Society of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Health,
along with the assistance of Nova Scotia communities, has
resulted in 20 positions being filled across the province -- nine
under the incentive package, and 11 physicians placed in
non-incentive areas.
