COMMUNITY SERVICES--FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION WEEK

Family Violence Prevention Week in Nova Scotia will be officially
launched at a special ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's
Anglican Church, Grand Parade, Halifax.

It's the third annual Family Violence Prevention Week, designed
to increase awareness of the need to reduce violence within
families. This year's theme is "You Never Hurt The One You Love".

Premier John Savage will sign a proclamation at the Halifax
ceremony, declaring the special week. Halifax Regional
Municipality Mayor Walter Fitzgerald will outline the rationale
behind Family Violence Prevention Week. Entertainment will be
provided by the Cornwallis Street Baptist Church Revival Choir
and the Bethany hand Bell Choir.

Community organizations across the province are sponsoring
special events throughout the week. These events will focus on
selected groups and how they are affected by family violence.
They include: Monday, woman abuse; Tuesday, child abuse;
Wednesday, elder abuse; Thursday, abuse of persons with
disabilities; Friday, abuse in ethno-cultural communities.
