ECONOMIC RENEWAL--VISITOR GIFT SHOP TENDERS AWARDED
-----------------------------------------------------------------
New contracts have been awarded to operate gift shops at
provincial visitor information centres(VICs) in Amherst and Port
Hastings, as a result of a public tendering process.

Island Beach Company of Truro was successful in the bid to run
The Visitor Shop at the Amherst border location, while Steeple
Holdings Limited, Dartmouth, will run the Port Hastings shop,
Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann announced today.

"Nova Scotia is poised for a banner tourism season," said Mr.
Mann. "Products in these gift shops will promote annual tourism
themes like the new Years of Music promotion, as well as support
the marketing efforts of the Nova Scotia Museum."

Previous leases expired at both shops in October, 1996. The lease
agreements were revised and tendered in November. The new
contracts will ensure that quality-made Nova Scotia products,
consistent with counselling and information services provided at
the VICs, will be available to visitors, the minister said.
