PUBLIC PROSECUTION SERVICE--NEW CROWN ATTORNEYS
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The director of Public Prosecutions has announced the appointment
of two new Crown attorneys.

Mr. Jerry Pitzul said today Shauna MacDonald has joined the
Public Prosecution Service (PPS) in Halifax and Diane McGrath
will work from the Truro office.

Ms. MacDonald, Halifax, was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in
1995. She has been a contract employee with the PPS since
December, 1996 and before that was retained by the service on a
per diem basis. Ms. MacDonald is a graduate of Dalhousie Law
School and Dalhousie University. She also attended university in
Aix-en-Provence, France and the Universite de Sherbrooke,
Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Ms. McGrath, Oxford, was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1993.
She has been a contract employee with the PPS in Truro since
August, 1996. Before that she had been retained on a per diem
basis by the service. She has also worked in private practice and
with Nova Scotia Legal Aid. Ms. McGrath is a graduate of the
University of New Brunswick Law School and Dalhousie University.
She also earned a diploma in legislative drafting from the
University of Ottawa's School of Graduate Studies, Faculty of
Law.

Mr. Pitzul said Ms. MacDonald's and Ms. McGrath's familiarity
with the service and enthusiasm are huge assets. "The time they
have spent working for the Crown has given them key practical
experience and a broad range of knowledge of how the service
operates."

Ms. MacDonald is filling a position that became open when a
recently hired Crown attorney had to give up the position for
personal reasons. Ms. McGrath's position became available when
a member of the service was transferred to Halifax.
