NATURAL RESOURCES--STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM IN FORESTRY
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As many as 275 forestry-related jobs will be available to Nova
Scotia students this summer. Details of the Student Internship
Employment Program were announced today by Natural Resources
Minister Eleanor Norrie.

"Again this year, the province is providing $700,000 for this
program under the resource enhancement fund," said Mrs. Norrie.
"It will mean jobs for 10 weeks for up to 275 high school and
university students. The jobs will start in mid-June and last
until late August."

Students who are 16 or older and who are residents of Nova Scotia
are eligible to apply for the jobs. Application forms will be
available at Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources offices
across the province and at Canada Employment centres. The
deadline for receipt of applications is May 23.

Students employed under the program will assist natural resources
staff in forest renewal projects, wildlife research, forest
protection, boundary-line clearing and maintenance, and other
forestry-related activities.

"Our government is pleased to provide the funds for these 275
summer jobs and to offer these students this type of practical
work experience," said Mrs. Norrie.
