COMMUNITY SERVICES--MULTI-SERVICE CENTRE FOR GOTTINGEN STREET
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Department of Community Services has selected the Maj.-Gen.
Donald J. MacDonald Building on Gottingen Street to create a
multi-service centre for clients in Halifax, Community Services
Minister John MacEachern announced today.

At least 145 staff in the department's Halifax regional offices
will be working in the building by early fall. The facility will
replace offices at Young Street and the West End Mall.

"It is a good move," said Mr. MacEachern. "Having services
available under one roof will make it easier for clients to get
the help they need."

The Gottingen Street multi-service centre will deliver several
programs, including community care, family benefits, and income
assistance and employment support.

The space will also serve as the administrative headquarters for
Community Services' Halifax region, one of the department's four
regional service delivery units across the province.

Mr. MacEachern noted that the building offers high-quality
working conditions for staff, with ample office space, superior
air quality and easy access. "I think people will be very
pleased. It really is a great office."

The Department of Transportation and Public Works negotiated a
sub-lease with the federal Department of Public Works on behalf
of the Department of Community Services to occupy four of the
five floors of the building. The space, vacant for the past four
months, was formerly occupied by the Department of National
Defence.
