The week of June 15 to 21 has been proclaimed as Senior Citizen's
Week throughout Nova Scotia.

The chair of the Senior Citizen's Secretariat, Community Services
Minister John MacEachern, signed the proclamation today on behalf
of Premier John Savage.

This year's proclamation draws attention to the fact that
lifetimes of commitment and resourcefulness by seniors have
served both the province and local communities to enable the next
generation to become responsible citizens by their example.

Mr. MacEachern urged municipalities, churches and other
organizations to make use of this special week to promote and
emphasize the importance of a positive attitude to preserve our
way of life in Canada.

Secretariat director, Brian Vandervaart, also called on all
organizations to develop special programs and activities to
emphasize how a positive attitude and lifestyle contributes to
the community at large.
