AGRICULTURE/MARKETING--ATLANTIC 4-H'ers SHOW WHAT THEY LEARN
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Eighty 4-H beef and dairy members from Atlantic Canada have been
in Truro learning and practising their livestock showmanship
skills over the past two days.

"Learning to do by doing is what 4-H is all about," said
Agriculture Minister Guy Brown. "The highlight of the event is a
beef and dairy show where 4-H members are able to demonstrate to
the public what they have learned all week."

This show will be held at the MacMillan Show Centre at the Nova
Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds on Friday, June 27,
beginning at 10 a.m.

Eastern Breeders Inc. has sponsored this training event for the
past seven years. The intensive three-day program teaches proper
animal management and preparation skills for showing cattle.
Members of 4-H learn the most current techniques in clipping,
showing, management and genetics. In some sessions, members are
tested on some of the material covered, while in others, they
practice what they learn.

The opportunity provides 4-H members with a level of training
that enables them to use the best management and preparation
practices with their animals. With Eastern Breeder's
contribution, 4-H members from all four Atlantic provinces
benefit from this program.
