PUBLIC PROSECUTION SERVICE--CONTRACT AWARDED FOR PPJI STUDY
-----------------------------------------------------------------

A Halifax firm has been awarded the contract to study the
feasibility of a Public Prosecution Justice Institute (PPJI) in
Nova Scotia.

ATi Consulting Corp. Inc., with a bid of $88,000, was the lowest
bidder of the six companies that submitted proposals. A contract
was signed yesterday between ATi and the director of public
prosecutions, Jerry Pitzul.

The proposed institute is a joint project between the Public
Prosecution Service and the Dalhousie Law School. The study is
being cost-shared between Nova Scotia Economic Development and
Tourism and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency through the
Industrial Development Opportunities Agreement.

The study will look at the feasibility of a PPJI for the
professional development of those involved in the prosecution of
criminal and quasi-criminal offences. The study will also look at
the feasibility of the institute as a research and policy
development facility for the criminal justice system,
predominantly in those areas dealing with the prosecution of
offences.
