FISHERIES/AQUACULTURE--Seafood Industry Directory Tops 1,000 Mark
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Demand for the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and
Aquaculture's seafood industry directory has prompted a
reprinting of the popular book.

More than 1,000 copies of the directory have already been
requested this year. More are needed for coming trades shows and
to keep up with requests from members of the public who want
current information on who is selling what kind of seafood
products.

"Some people call the directory our marketing bible. It has been
generating business for years," said James Barkhouse, Minister of
Fisheries and Aquaculture. "It's valuable because it connects
seafood buyers with seafood sellers."

This is the 17th year for the directory, which includes
alphabetic listings of more than 200 Nova Scotia companies and a
detailed product index.

Detailed information about Nova Scotia's seafood business is in
demand around the world.

"This directory is very well travelled. This year alone, we've
given it out at trade shows in Hong Kong, Spain and Seattle,"
said Marshall Giles, a Fisheries and Aquaculture manager who has
led many seafood missions abroad.

At home, many people call the department looking for a copy.

"People come back year after year asking for the directory," said
Mr. Giles. "It has everything from company contacts to exactly
what kind of products any Nova Scotia fish company sells."

The free booklet is distributed though the provincial Department
of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the federal Department of
Fisheries and Oceans.
