Residents of Tancook Island will continue to use the services of
the Scotian ferry until February, when parts for the cargo crane
on the permanent ferry are expected to be delivered.

Workers discovered corrosion on the crane of the permanent ferry,
the William G Ernst, as it was undergoing a regular scheduled
refit earlier this month. For safety, the crane was removed and
new parts ordered. The parts, which had to be ordered from
Austria, will take about 13 weeks to be delivered.

Residents can transport cargo on the Scotian ferry as they have
been since the William G Ernst refit began. The William G Ernst
will return to Chester as a backup ferry for passengers if the
need arises.

A school bus placed on the Scotian offers an enclosed place for
riders to sit during their crossing.
