As of July 1, the inspection, compliance and enforcement functions from several provincial government departments will come together under Nova Scotia Environment.

Departments involved in this consolidation include the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Health and Wellness, the Department of Agriculture, Nova Scotia Environment, and the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Visits to farms, agricultural fairs and petting zoos provide an enjoyable experience and play a valuable role in educating children about animals.

Unfortunately, many children become sick each year because of a visit to an animal exhibit. It is important to remember that animals may carry germs that can be harmful to people. Below are several resources for parents, teachers and animal exhibit operators to ensure children do not become ill from visiting animal exhibits.
