Youth is a time of growth, learning and exploration that contributes to a vibrant, diverse and contributing society. By engaging youth and creating safe, healthy environments for young people, we can ensure a brighter future for all of us.
Presently, for youth under the age of 20, injury claims more lives each year than all other causes of death combined and approximately 30% of children in Nova Scotia are either overweight or obese and most children are not meeting the recommended level of daily physical activity. Statistics like these led us to support Youth Health Centres and the health promoting schools philosophy. This includes healthy school-based policies and programs such as Healthy Foods at School Policy and school-based immunizations.
