It is the first comprehensive review of Nova Scotia's permitting system in more than a decade.
To date, improvements have been made to over half of all provincial permits. These changes are expected to save about $737,000 annually. Work is ongoing.
The Making Business Easier Act eliminated several low-risk permits and required all new permits to have clear service standards.
Other improvements were made through regulatory and policy changes, including:
- eliminating permits associated with low-risk activities
- lengthening time frames for renewal
- streamlining application processes
