COMMUNITY PROFILE FOR JANUARY: SCOTSBURN

Scotsburn Co-operative Limited, with products throughout Maritimes, announced that it was officially leaving for Truro. The company was founded in 1900 by a group of dairy farmers in Scotsburn, a small rural community in Nova Scotia (Scotsburn saddened but still Scotsburn despite Scotsburn Ltd. departing).The following Community Profile provides a glimpse at how the Scotsburn looked in 2011.

Population

Based on the 2011 Census of Population, Scotsburn has a population of 3,379 which is 0.7% higher than in 2001. In 2011, 21.5% of the population was under the age of 20 and 15.5% was 65 years or older.

In comparison, Nova Scotia has a population of 921,725 which is 1.5% higher than in 2001. 21.2% of the population was under the age of 20 and 16.6% was 65 years or older.

Median and Average Income

In 2011, the median income for individuals in Scotsburn was $32,491 a year, compared with the median of $27,570 for Nova Scotia. Families in Scotsburn had a median income of $74,785, compared with the median of $68,102 for Nova Scotia.
