In December 2017, Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payments basis, seasonally adjusted) posted a $3.2 billion deficit.
Exports increased by 0.6 per cent from November 2017 to $46.5 billion and 0.4 per cent over December 2016. Imports are up 1.5% over November 2017 to $49.7 billion, and increased 7.8 percent over December 2016. Additionally, November imports were revised up to $49.0 billion from the initially reported $48.7 billion.
ANNUAL 2017
In 2017, the total merchandise trade deficit was $24.0 billion. Annual goods exports were valued at $549.3 billion and goods imports were valued at $573.2 billion. This is the third consecutive year that Canada has posted a trade deficit.
