UK TRADE BALANCE JANUARY 2018

 

 UK import and export trade is a main contributor to the overall economic growth of the UK.

In January 2018,

  • the UK seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade deficit increased  by £582 million to £3.1 billion from December 2017;
  • the main contributor to the increased deficit was the 2.6% (£1.4 billion) increase in imports of trade in goods and services to £56.7 billion.

 

In January 2018, goods exports increased £878 million to £29.5 billion while goods imports increased £1.4 billion to £41.8 billion. The resulting goods deficit increased to £12.3 billion.

In January 2018, services exports decreased £12 million to £24.1 billion and services imports increased £16 million to £14.9 billion. The resulting services surplus decreased to £9.3 billion.

 

 

 

Trade with Canada

 

In January 2018, goods exports with Canada increased £26 million to £450 million, and goods imports from Canada decreased £12 million, to £430 million. The resulting goods surplus with Canada increased to £20 million.

  

Trade with EU and nonEU Countries

In January 2018, goods exports with European Union countries (EU28) increased to £14.7 billion, and goods imports from EU28 countries increased to £23.2 billion. The resulting goods deficit with EU28 countries increased to £8.5 billion.

In January 2018, goods exports with non-European Union countries  increased £756 million to £14.8 billion, and goods imports from non-EU28 countries increased £733 million to £18.6 billion. The resulting goods deficit with non-EU28 countries decreased £20 million to £3.9 billion.
