TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, MARCH 2018

Halifax home prices as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price were down 1.0 per cent in March over February 2018. The Halifax price level was 6.1 per cent above the same month in 2017. The national year-over-year price gain slowed to 6.6 per cent in March.

National resale home prices measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index were flat in March on a monthly basis, with 5 of the 11 cities reporting lower prices in March. Quebec, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Victoria showed gains, while Toronto remained unchanged. 

Year-over-year, resale home prices are up 6.6 per cent for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index.  The strongest gains are reported in BC, Ontario (Toronto and Hamilton) and in Halifax this month.   

Comparing the first three months of 2018 with the same months last year, resale home prices were up 7.6% for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index. The strongest gains are seen in British Columbia and Ontario. Montreal and Halifax also reported notable increases over the first three months of 2017.
