In March 2018, Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payments basis, seasonally adjusted) posted a $4.1 billion deficit.
Exports are up 3.7% over February 2018 to $47.6 billion, and increased 1.9 percent over March 2017. Imports increased by 6.0 per cent from February 2018 to $51.7 billion and increased 9.2% over March 2017.
In March 2018, the Canadian merchandise trade surplus with the United States (balance of payments basis, seasonally adjusted) decreased to $1.7 billion over February 2018.
Year-to-date
In Canada Jan-Mar 2018, the total merchandise trade deficit reached $9.1 billion. Year to date goods exports were valued at $139.2 billion and year-to-date goods imports were valued at $148.3 billion.
