TERANET-NATIONAL BANK HOUSE PRICE INDEX, MAY 2018

Halifax home prices as measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index were virtually unchanged in May 2018 compared to the previous month. The Halifax price level was up 3.9 per cent over May 2017. The national year-over-year price gain slowed to 4.5 per cent in May.                                                         

National resale home prices measured by the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index rose by 1.0 per cent month-to-month, with all cities except Halifax reporting higher prices in May. 

Year-over-year, resale home prices are up 4.5 per cent for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index, with 10 of the 11 cities reporting higher housing prices compared to one year ago.  The largest increases were reported in Vancouver and Victoria, while Toronto reported a decline. 

Comparing the first five months of 2018 with the same months last year, resale home prices were up 6.6 per cent for the 11-city composite of the Teranet-National Bank House Price Index.  The strongest gains were reported in Vancouver, Victoria and Hamilton.
