TRADE VALUE OF PRODUCTS SUBJECT TO TARIFFS

The Unites States implemented additional tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum exports to the United States on June 1, 2018. The additional tariffs rates are 25 per cent for steel products and 10 per cent for aluminum products. The total value of Canadian exports of steel and aluminum products that are subject to these new tariffs to the United States was $16.4 billion in 2017.

In response, Canada imposed tariffs on the imports of certain products from the US starting on July 1, 2018. Import tariffs are 25 per cent on articles of iron and steel and 10 per cent on aluminum products, and certain types of prepared food, paper products, machinery and equipment and other miscellaneous manufactured items. In 2017, the import value of the goods subject to the proposed tariffs was $16.6 billion.
