UK RETAIL SALES, JUNE 2018

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales decreased in June.  The value of retail sales were down 0.3 per cent in June while the volume (adjusted for price changes) decreased by 0.5 per cent.  The monthly retail sales bulletin suggests that while hot weather and World Cup celebrations increased foods store sales, it also resulted in a decrease in "footfall" in non-food stores and an overall reduction in the volume of retail purchases.

Year-over-year UK retail sales values were 5.3 per cent higher in June 2018 than they were in June 2017.  UK retail sales volumes are up 2.9 per cent year-over-year.

Year-to-date UK retail sales values are up 4.5 per cent compared with the same months of 2017 while retail sales volumes were up 2.1 per cent.
