US TRADE BALANCE, JUNE 2018

In June 2018, the US goods and services trade deficit widened to -$46.3 billion, a $3.2 billion increase compared with a revised May deficit of -$43.2 billion.  The deficit in goods trade deepened by $3.1 billion to -$68.8 billion.  The services surplus declined by $42 million to $22.5 billion.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit was $291.2 billion for the first half of 2018, with a goods deficit of $423.4 billion and a services surplus of $132.1 billion. Compared the same period last year, the goods deficit widened by $25.1 billion and the services surplus grew by $5.5 billion. Year-to-date, the total goods and services deficit widened by $19.6 billion compared to the first six months of 2017.

Monthly exports declined by $1.5 billon, with a $1.7 billion decline in goods exports and a $197 million increase in services exports. US imports were up $1.6 billion in June, reflecting a $1.4 billion increase in goods imports and a $239 million increase in services imports.
