UK RETAIL SALES, JULY 2018

 

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales increased in July. The value of retail sales was up 0.9 per cent in July with the volume (adjusted for price changes) increasing by 0.7 per cent.  The monthly retail sales bulletin noted that that good weather and World Cup celebrations help with foods store sales and online sales were strong due to promotional activity.

Year-over-year UK retail sales values were 5.9 per cent higher in July 2018 than they were in July 2017.  UK retail sales volumes are up 3.5 per cent year-over-year. Higher growth in value than volume occurred mostly with petrol stations and food stores.

Year-to-date UK retail sales values are up 4.7 per cent compared with the same months of 2017 while retail sales volumes were up 2.3 per cent.
