US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JULY 2018

In July, US construction spending increased 0.1 per cent to 1,315 billion. This follows a revised decline of 0.8 per cent reported in June, when construction spending totaled $1,314 billion. Year-over-year, spending is 5.8 per cent above July 2017.

Private sector construction decreased by 0.1 per cent in July to $1,011 billion, and is up 5.1 per cent over July of last year. Public sector construction rose 0.7 per cent to $304.5 billion in July, and is up 8.3 per cent year-over-year. 

US residential construction rose 0.6 per cent month-to-month to $567 billion, and is up 6.6 per cent over July 2017. Non-residential construction spending declined 0.3 per cent to $749 billion in July, and increased 5.3 per cent year-over-year. 

In the first seven months of 2018, US construction spending is up 5.2 per cent over the same period in 2017. Residential construction grew by 7.6 per cent, while non-residential grew by 3.5 per cent. Private sector construction increased by 5.2 per cent and public sector construction increased 5.4 per cent, compared to the first seven months of 2017.
