US TRADE BALANCE, JULY 2018

In July 2018, the US goods and services trade deficit widened to -$50.1 billion. The deficit in goods trade deepened by $4.2 billion to -$73.1 billion.  The services surplus declined by $132 million to $23.1 billion.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit was $337.9 billion, with a goods deficit of $497.1 billion and a services surplus of $159.2 billion. Compared the same period last year, the goods deficit widened by $33.4 billion and the services surplus grew by $11.4 billion. Year-to-date, the total goods and services deficit widened by $22.0 billion compared to the first seven months of 2017.

Monthly exports declined by $2.1 billon to $211.1 billion, with a $2.3 billion decline to $141 billion in goods exports and a $209 million increase to $70.3 in services exports.

US imports were up $2.2 billion to 261.2 billion in July, reflecting a $1.9 billion increase to $214 billion in goods imports and a $341 million increase to $47.2 billion in services imports.
