In July 2018,
- the UK seasonally adjusted goods and services balance of trade deficit decreased by £831 million to £111 million over June 2018.
- the main contributor to the decreased deficit was the 2.8% (£835 million) increase in exports of goods to £30.5 billion.
In July 2018, goods exports increased £835 million to £30.5 billion while goods imports increased £129 million to £40.4 billion. The resulting goods deficit narrowed to £10.0 billion.
In July 2018, services exports increased £209 million to £23.9 billion and services imports increased £84 million to £14.1 billion. The resulting services surplus increased slightly to £9.9 billion.
Year-to-date Goods Trade by Sector
In Jan-Jul 2018, the Machinery and transportation equipment sector, accounting for 40% of goods exports, increased to £81.2 billion. Chemicals exports, accounting for 17% of exports, decreased to £33.9 billion.
