UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, JUNE TO AUGUST 2018

The UK Office for National Statistics reported today that the unemployment rate for the three-month period June to August 2018 was 4.0 per cent, level with the previous three month period. This is down from the rate of 4.3 per cent reported for the same months a year ago. The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom has not been lower since 1975.

There were 1.36 million unemployed people, 47,000 fewer than the period March to May 2018, and 79,000 fewer than for a year earlier.

Employment was at 32.4 million, little change compared to March to May 2018, and 289,000 more than for a year earlier.
