UK RETAIL SALES, SEPTEMBER 2018

 

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales growth was mixed in September.

  • Month over month retail sales values decreased 0.6 per cent while the retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) decreased 0.8 per cent over August 2018.
  • Year-over-year retail sales values increased 4.9 per cent and retail sales volumes increased 3.0 per cent over September 2017.
  • Year-to-date retail sales values increased 4.8 per cent and retail sales volumes increased 2.6 per cent over Jan-Sep 2017.

QUOTES

Internet sales increased by 11.0% for the amount spent in September 2018 when compared with September 2017, with all sectors showing strong year-on-year growth. The month-on-month picture saw a fall of 2.1% when compared with August 2018. Online sales as a proportion of all retailing fell slightly to 17.8% from the 18.0% reported in August 2018.
