LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - OCTOBER 2018

In Nova Scotia October 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force increased 0.2% (800) from September 2018 to 495,500 and increased 0.9% (4,200) over October 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.3% (1,300) from September 2018 to 457,500 and increased 2.1% (9,500) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 1.0% (-400) from September 2018 to 38,100 and decreased 12.2% (-5,300) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from September 2018 to 7.7%.

 In Canada October 2018, (seasonally-adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour Force decreased 0.1% (-18,200) from September 2018 to 19,846,700 and increased 0.6% (126,400) over October 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.1% (11,200) from September 2018 to 18,705,000 and increased 1.1% (205,900) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 2.5% (-29,400) from September 2018 to 1,141,700 and decreased 6.5% (-79,400) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from September 2018 to 5.8%.

 In Halifax October 2018, (3 month moving average, seasonally-adjusted):

  • Labour Force increased 0.2% (500) from September 2018 to 251,900 and increased 4.6% (11,000) over October 2017.
  • Employment increased 0.3% (700) from September 2018 to 235,200 and increased 5.4% (12,100) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment decreased 0.6% (-100) from September 2018 to 16,700 and decreased 6.7% (-1,200) over October 2017.
  • Unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from September 2018 to 6.6%.
